Laurie Nuyens, ATC, NASM-CPT, Fitness Program Director
Laurie earned her BS from Central Michigan University in Sports Medicine. She is a certified member of the National Athletic Trainers Association and a National Academy of Sports Medicine Certified Personal Trainer. Laurie has worked as a full time personal trainer since 2001.
Many of her clients have changed their life with Laurie’s guidance, knowledge and support. Laurie enjoys working with those brand new to fitness and with the experienced athlete who is looking to take it to the next level. With Laurie’s education and experience she is qualified to care for people recovering from a injury, training for a specific sport or with those looking to lose weight and increase health. Laurie herself is an avid runner and triathlete. Laurie has completed various half marathons, marathons, and half iron mans.
Sandy Vu-Lundgaard, Fitness Instructor
In 2001 Sandy transitioned to competing in Ms. Fitness Competitions. Being a National Competitor she has performed and has been a guest speaker for the body building and fitness industry. Since 2002 she has also worked for MMUSA supplements as a spokesperson.
Sandy has a background in various martial art which include Karate, Ju Jitsu, Kick Boxing, and Wushu. In 2011 she acquired her CoreBox Certification and starting teaching Cardio Kickbox at Total Health Systems.
When Total Health Systems introduced the FitRanX program in 2013. Sandy became FitRanX Certified. Sandy teaches the FitRanX groups mainly at our Chesterfield location. Sandy is known for pushing her athletes and being a stickler for perfect form.
Carrie Blankertz, Certified Personal Trainer
Carrie earned her BA in 2003 from Concordia University Ann Arbor in Physical Education. While attending CUAA she took a fitness trainers course and became certified as a Personal Trainer though the American Council on Exercise (ACE). Upon graduating Carrie taught physical education to Kindergarten through Eight Grade for three years while training part-time in the evenings. After falling in love with the fitness field Carrie made a change to train full time so she could help more people reach their health and wellness goals.
In her twelve years as a trainer Carrie has enjoyed working in an array of environments from small personal training studios, gyms, corporate facilities and in-home training. She has added other certifications including Yoga Fit, Prenatal Fitness, Tabata Bootcamp, and ACE Health Coach. Carrie loves working with small groups.
When not working you can find Carrie staying active by playing outside with her two boys Nolan and Austin. She has a passion for fitness and helping others. Carrie is excited to join the Total Health Systems team.
Paul Jones, Certified Personal Trainer
Paul brings a wealth of life experiences to the table, including reducing his A1C numbers quitting smoking, and 50 pound weight loss. (A1C is level watched closely with diabetes). After going thru his own weight loss journey, Paul’s trainer encouraged him to share his passion for health and fitness and earn his own personal training certificate. While taking classes for his certification, he met Carrie Blankertz another Total Health Systems personal trainer. Carrie was one of his instructors for his W.I.T.S certification. Carrie, knowing Paul has a lot to offer our clientele at Total Health, encouraged him to complete his internship with Total Health Systems.
Paul has worked with some of the top trainers in S.E. Michigan for many years. Paul has experience with weight loss, nutrition, smoking cessation, cardio programing including heart rate training, free weights, yoga, stretching, and weight machines. Paul wants to share his knowledge, passion, and desire for success with you. A trainer for the rest of us!

Nicole, Certified Group Fitness Instructor
HI!! I am a highly energetic, Aerobics and Fitness Association of America certified group fitness trainer who is excited to be part of the Total Health Systems team! I have additional certifications in PIYO, Barre, and Yoga. My mission is to provide you with a one of a kind workout experience that ultimately improves your quality of life.
I have been involved in dance and group fitness my entire life starting as a 3 year old in tap, ballet and jazz classes. My love for dance provided me the opportunity to travel to France and perform with the UDA. I have been actively involved in group fitness since I was 18 and finally decided to pursue a career in a field that I am so passionate about. I am experienced in conducting a variety of classes including Boot Camp, Cardio Kickboxing, Mat Pilates, Yoga, Barre and Strength and Toning.
Along with my passion for dance and fitness is a huge love for animals. I went to school and pursued my nursing degree in veterinary medicine. I am married, a proud mother of identical twin girls and am a life-long resident of Macomb County. I hope you are as excited as I am to get started and look forward to providing you with a unique and quality fitness experience.
